Our School-Based Police Officer works with the school community on a range of issues, such as:
- Identify and address local policing issues within the school community, using crime prevention initiatives and problem-solving approaches
- Plan, prepare and deliver quality presentations, information and advice to students and protective adults (teachers, other school staff, parents and carers) to enhance safety and wellbeing and to contribute to an understanding of police and the law
- Provide the initial police response and recording of offences committed within the school and undertake minor investigations where appropriate.
- Implement, manage and apply problem solving approaches to bring about improved service delivery between the Police and school
The School-based Police Officer is able to assist with presenting lessons to students, parents and the school community on topics including:
- Bullying, cyber bullying, sexting
- Internet safety
- Personal safety, including protective behaviours and sexual offences
- Party safe
- Road safety
- Law education through understanding law and legal processes
- Drug and alcohol awareness
- Domestic violence
- Mental health
- Crime prevention initiatives
- Child protection issues
- Assist the school-based nurse in the delivery of Healthy Relationships lessons
- Assist the school chaplain in the delivery of wellbeing and inclusiveness programs
- Participate in sporting activities between students and staff
- Participate in planned leadership activities
- Investigate, and also provide assistance to other officers, with offences that involve students
