The Kirwan Grizzlies Year 7/8 and 9/10 team qualified this year, for the first time ever, for the Karyn Murphy Cup state finals. This is an all-girls school rugby league competition played across Queensland, which had over 230 teams entered this year. The girls played a range of teams from the South East Region after finishing first in the northern region (north of Rockhampton) earlier this year.
The Year 9/10 team was unfortunately knocked out in after losses in both their two play-off rounds against Mabel Park and Redbank, however finished a respectable third in Queensland.
The Year 7/8 girls had a narrow loss, on the siren, to Mabel Park in their first round, however had a win in the second game against Beenleigh State High School. This qualified them for the State Final against Mabel Park, again. After being 4-0 down at half time, 3 minutes left in the second half, scores were tied 8-8. Unfortunately, the girls finished second overall in Queensland (Runners-up), due to a late try.
All girls played with enthusiasm, represented the Kirwan High community proudly and competed well at the highest level in the current sporting pathway for Schoolgirls Rugby League in Queensland.
The Kirwan High family is very proud of your achievement.
