Excellence in Teaching 2017

In addition to celebrating student achievements, we would like to recognise the outstanding success of two of our science teachers, both of whom have been named as state finalists in the Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Teaching awards.

Zoe Hiddins has been shortlisted in the 2017 Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) Excellence in Teaching Award category.  She is passionate about connecting students’ science learning with real world projects and opportunities. Zoe is currently pursuing PhD studies in science and she led Kirwan High’s recent international sustainability tour, ‘Scientists Enacting Global Change – Indonesia Experience’.

Dr Jennifer Bannan has been shortlisted in the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) Excellence in Beginning to Teach Award category.  Jennifer’s Biochemistry PhD in medical research enables her to deliver engaging lessons for senior biology, chemistry and junior science classes.  Jennifer is also delivering a new global citizenship subject this year, through our Global Leaders Academy, entitled Human Technologies.  Like Zoe, Jennifer links classroom learning with real world science.   In her second year of teaching, Jennifer is a teacher in science curriculum development and pedagogy.  She has been working with a group of senior students to improve our school’s environmental practices.

Zoe and Jennifer will travel to Brisbane on Friday 27 October for the final judging for these awards.

Our community is very proud of both teachers and we wish them the very best in these state finals.
